If Windmill hasn't made it onto your radar just yet, then you really should check out this stunningly beautiful single.
Windmill is essentially an outlet for the supremely talented Matthew Dillon whose album Puddle City Racing Lights was a breath of fresh air when it emerged quietly almost a year ago. Vocally Dillon is not unlike Jonathan Donahue, while his music comes from a similar place as Flaming Lips later work. If there's one thing that links all these musicians, then it's the ability to write the most emotive and heartbreaking music.
Tokyo Moon has no problem in reaching into your chest and squeezing your heart until tears well up in your eyes. Kicking off with a simple piano riff and Dillon's high pitched vocals it builds with a thundering drum track that threatens to drown out everything before it. As soon as it drops out, it only serves to highlight the fragility that lies at the centre of the song.
Tokyo Moon is a prefect introduction to the gentle genius of Windmill, but it's no flash in the pan, follow the Puddle City Racing Lights and you'll find a whole world of enchantment and heartbreak.
