Liverpudlian trio The Wombats have been generating an increasingly frenzied buzz about them with a succession of witty, spiky little pop songs, and it's hard to imagine they can carry on much longer without becoming very famous indeed.
Kill The Director is very much in the vein of their previous singles, being an energetic three-minute romp with lyrics that will make you smile and a tune you won't be able to stop humming. Matthew Murphy this time compares his relationship to a romantic comedy, coming to the conclusion that "this is no Bridget Jones", before a rallying call of "if this is a rom-com, kill the director".
Yes, it does sound a bit like The Kooks, and rather like their closest musical contemporaries The Pigeon Detectives, it would be nice to hear something a bit different from them in the future. Yet for now, this is another fine addition to an already impressive back catalogue for The Wombats.
