Remember The Seahorses? Well The Yards see the welcome return of ex-Seahorses members Chris Helme and Stuart Fletcher. If this single is anything to go by, the The Yards could well obliterate any memory you had of their previous band.

The Devil is Alive and Well and in DC is not a modern day religious epic. No, instead the song lines up President Bush in its sights and squeezes the trigger. Even though Bush Baiting seems to be a fairly common practice among bands at the moment, and let's face it most of them miss the target, The Yards seem to have something pretty exciting on their hands here.

It turns out that The Yards and Helme in particular have raided the vaults for Americana and developed a sound that takes in elements of The Doors, The Stooges, and hell, even a smidgen of Soundgarden. This is a punchy little song, proper rock riffs, and pounding drums. It's just a shame that America has to elect Bush so that bands like The Yards have to produce great stuff like this. Next week: Johnny Dean from Menswe@r takes on Robert Mugabe.
