The Yards are a bit of a Yorkshire indie-supergroup really, with band members such as Chris Helme (lead singer in John Squire's post Stone Roses group The Seahorses), and the former Shed Seven guitarist Paul Banks.

Don't come to Only Myself To Blame expecting mid-90s Britpop chirpiness though. The Yards are steeped in the sounds and atmosphere of the ‘60s, and the lead track here is a dusty ballad which is as old-fashioned as they come. Helme's voice sounds different to his Seahorses days and he sounds far more comfortable with this kind of material.

It may not be the most exciting song in the world and it's certainly nothing revolutionary, but fans of what some term "proper songs" would do a lot worse than investigate The Yards.
