So it's been a long time since The Wind That Blow the Robot's Arms conquered with an insane mix of maverick glitch hop and beatific pop collage, but Yea Big returns bolstered by a genuine rapper to etch more havoc on the senses.

The story goes that YB (aka Stefen Robinson) acquired the services of Kid Static (a part time high building jumper) through Chicago's biggest hip hop community message board, sailing a sea of disparaging remarks that he'd probably have expected as a white mandolin virtuoso street performer in short shorts, but he makes these more digestible sounds bounce on the roof with a typical outlandishness.

Leading track Heavy Catamaran has the smiling strut of the best comic-book-hero hip hop, and underneath it teems a vortex of insane musicality that captures all that’s great about Robinson as an artist. Anyone looking beyond the wearisome posturing of the mainstream for a pristine hip hop feast need search no more.
