The Young Knives - Here Comes The Rumour Mill (Transgressive)
UK release date: 27 February 2006
I'm no psychiatrist, but as indicators of mental state go, I'm pretty sure a decision to adopt the name 'The House Of Lords' isn't a good sign. And the fact that one of The Young Knives has taken than moniker definitely suggests all isn't entirely right in (at least one of) their respective mindtanks.
Having said that, anyone who believes taking the chorus of Kiss's Crazy Crazy Nights, giving it a banjo and then inserting it smack bang into a song (Elaine) pitched somewhere between The Kinks and Dexy's Midnight Runners is the kind of person you want in a position of responsibility and power, and preferably operating heavy machinery.
If that wasn't enough, the shenanigans of the title track manage to best it by some margin, with a juddering mix of fuzzy guitars and glam-rock falsettos. It's mad as a bushel of hatters in a suitcase filled with shark-flavoured custard, but bollock-clenchingly good with it.
