Having slipped under the radar last time around, Weekends is being given another whirl by those smart Young Knife types. Specs and ties at the ready? Let's get angular!

Held together with the kind of brain-burrowing riff that soundtracks most iPod TV adverts, Weekends And Bleak Days (Hot Summer) is lyrically vigorous but musically lightweight - as a song about skiving, it'll sound great for the next few weeks, but will struggle once the temperatures subside. A solar-powered single, if you will.

Shrewd, then, that a song that does not best exhibit The Young Knives' ability is had been rejigged onto the airwaves for its seasonal aptness. Is a Christmas number one their next port of call?
