The NME recently featured a four page spread talking up the new Yorkshire
scene. Your Vegas are the four piece from Leeds who escaped their attention, and it could prove to be a blessing. I am sure Your Vegas don't fit into
the arty straightjacket that the NME seems to have imposed on the scene. I am
sure they will bypass its provincial nature and head straight for the
charts.
This is epic indie. A huge sweeping riff that sounds like the Edge high on a
diet of champagne and sunshine ushers in the Your Vegas. Choirboy vocals from
the skinny frame of Coyle Girelli soar above the tangled guitars and desperate
rhythm. It's a plea for escape for small town cul de sac living. It's bursting
with a romantic ache that blisters. Imagine Embrace with a vocalist who
didn't need a bucket to carry a tune in - it's Coldplay without the
celebrity lifestyle distractions.
B-side Aurora is second high octane shot of the same classic brew. The
riff nags its way into your memory, the chorus takes off like a jumbo jet. The Killers if they watched daytime TV - faded glamour and a vodka thirst.
The band has aimed high - this is an attempt at the big music and it hits the
target with ease. Hypnotic, hook heavy and accomplished.
