Last year's masters of chill out return with the first single from their new album, When It Falls. Home lives up to all expectations, and then goes the extra distance to show that since Simple Things, Zero 7 have been paying extra special attention at chill out school.
Vocalist Tina Dico lazily sings a melody that drifts in and out of falsetto over a backdrop of woozy lounge bar music. The luscious textures melt over each other, the suspense builds, a climax is needed. Zero 7 do not disappoint. At precisely 2:39 in stomp the jazzy drums, brass, and beautiful, overdubbed vocal harmonies.
As the days get lighter and sunnier, summer approaches. The war of chill out looms, like a seasonally programmed leopard waiting to pounce. If Home is testament to anything, it could well be a very sunny summer indeed for Zero 7.
