Zico Chain - Where Would You Rather Be

buy music
With a rip it up screech of feedback and a thunking, funky descending base line, Zico Chain's latest single, Where Would You Rather Be? offers a fusion between modern QOTSA-style rock and '70s Heavy Metal, particularly on the vocals which range from grumbly to screeching.

There are no extravagant solos or extraneous furbelows, and the rough and ready approach to feedback gives them a thoroughly current sound. Only their 'live fast, die young' ethos seems out of date in a world of self-aware metal bands like Wolfmother.

They might want the rather heavy-handed 'life is shitting on me' lyrics to count, but their appeal is all in the sound - distinct and succinct.
