Zillionaire - Absent Friend

buy music
Zillionaire, formerly Astrolab, are a four piece from London, comprised of three New Zealanders, who decided to form a band due to the eye-opening realisation that they weren't playing music, which seems as good a reason as any to start a band I suppose.

On the evidence of Absent Friend however, perhaps they should not have bothered, for Zillionaire's latest offering sounds like a poor man's Beta Band. The lazy guitar strums, the tedious, timid bass, the languid, hushed vocals. Nothing about this song inspires any positive reaction.

What's worse, Absent Friend has fallen badly to the going-nowhere factor, being as it is, a repetitive, dull, and frankly boring example of why not all new bands deserve to be hyped until their head disappears up their own arse. Still, cool band name.
