It's obviously a bit churlish to be negative about a Band Aid single. It's a great cause and will deservedly sell bucketloads, staying at Number One for ages. Yet the third version of this perennial Christmas favourite has already prompted some grumbling that it's "not as good as the original version".

Well, if we're honest, musically the original was no great shakes, having been improved by the distant glow of nostalgia. The 2004 version has a more up to date production and all the celebs (with the exception of Dizzee Rascal's disasterous rap in the middle) acquit themselves well. Chris Martin is the perfect choice to deliver the famous opening line, Bono thankfully gets to reprise his part and the girl group it's okay to like, Sugababes, add some nice harmonies, It's certainly a lot better than the dreadful Stock/Aitken/Waterman version from 1989.

By the time the celebrated refrain of "Feed The World" kicks in, you'll be feeling all warm and fuzzy inside - even if the question of why a brand new song wasn't recorded instead remains. Ultimately though, it doesn't matter whether it's any good - just go out and buy multiple copies today, or download it from the link below.
