Lemmy of Motorhead recently said that every riff has been written: you can try extremely hard but still be a rock 'n' roll cliché. Like The White Stripesand The Vines, The Datsuns make wonderfully catchy music that we've heard before yet we don't complain because its fantastically entertaining stuff filled with dollops of raw energy and no-nonsense riffs. It sounds like it's been stuck in a time warp for 30 years: it's 1968 Detroit garage rock that the early Alice Cooper band would have been proud of, which is no doubt one of the reasons why Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones has produced their latest opus.

There is nothing especially noticeable about the Kiwi rockers latest inexorable attack on the charts other than its amazing simplicity and speedy approach: as soon as the song begins it's seconds away from being over. It is a basic sound filled with dirty strumming and sleazy vocals that will leave you craving for more.

Blacken My Thumb may not be Back In Black but it is a rapid assault on the senses, yet I bet the constant complaints from your whiny neighbors will give you a more painful headache. But who gives a damn, it's rock 'n' roll!
