Britain's indie troubadour steers away from his favourite subject of dwelling on love and instead sings a mini diatribe in this second single off superb album Strangers.

Musicians born in the '70s, rants Ed, have a hard time of it from old cynics who claim that their music has all been done before years ago. Well Harcourt is having none of it. The lyrics are thrown at the listener with breathless alacrity as though in a stream-of-consciousness. Don't put up this wall, let me play my music, he says.

And play it he does. It's a song red with impassioned stirrings for his trade. The single isn't another personal foray into the life of Ed Harcourt, but is this time an emboldened delve into his mind. It's another side to this hugely talented singer songwriter that I'd happily see more of.
