As the new Girls Aloud single The Show flopped onto my doormat, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect: Paper thin melodies, lyrical content as deep as a puddle and the kind of poppy beats that remind me of a time when I thought school discos were cool. Did the girls prove me wrong...?
In a word, no. The Show is old ground in every sense, with quite literally nothing setting it out from the dozens of pop tunes currently jamming the airwaves. However, like their shamefully bland cover of Jump!, The Show should fade away after not very long at all.
I cannot tell you anything that you haven't already correctly guessed about Girls Aloud's latest musical endeavour. Young girls (and boys; this is the 21st century) will lap up this positive pop, as they always do. Everybody else shouldn't have too much trouble tuning it out as background noise.
