Jamelia - Stop/DJ (Parlophone)
UK release date: 1 November 2004
 Jamelia - Stop/DJ
The best R&B/pop British artist of the year has released some truly sparkling pop gems in recent months, with the standard of songwriting setting her far apart from blander contemporaries.

So it's something of a puzzle that she's chosen to round off a very successful year by releasing this carbon copy cover version of Sam Brown's 1988 single Stop. As the lead track in the new Bridget Jones film, it'll obviously be a huge hit but there's not much here to distinguish it from the original - thus rendering Jamelia's version slightly pointless.

Back up track DJ has a bit more sass and funk about it, but lacks the charm of Thank You or See It In A Boy's Eyes. Jamelia's voice still sounds good though, and hers is one of the more deserving success stories of the year.
