It seems to me that Longview are starting to get an inner confidence in their music - clearly evident in their new single In A Dream - and refuse to rest on the laurels of their debut album's success.
Musically not much has changed, with Rob McVey's moody vocal the main feature, and a tempo that's almost too slow but is rescued by the quality of the production. Dark colourings and a wistful chorus line will no doubt reopen comparisons with Elbow, but the band emerge from these with credibility intact.
The end is unexpected, McVey's "always falling short" suspended over nothing, but it's a good sign that Longview are prepared to try something a bit different. While they have a nose for a good tune they could go much further.
