Prosaics are a band that could cause a problem for the makers of Jeopardy. Because where previously the answer: "An intense band from NYC who probably spent a lot of their youth locked in their rooms listening to records by The Cure and Joy Division" belonged solely to the question "Who are Interpol?" It could now equally pertain to "Who are Prosaics?"
Which I'm sure is of huge concern to them. The comparisons are perhaps slightly unfair as well, because while they may share some common ancestry DNA, the actual end species is actually fairly distinct from those fellow New Yorkers. Where Interpol are glacially cool and withdrawn, Prosaics betray more passion, more emotion in their music.
The odd numbered tracks are the standouts: opener Teeth drives woozily forward on spiky riffs, Now The Shadow Of The Column will become a staple for the dumped, strangely beautiful in a bruised, forlorn, rejected way and last track Tenants is marvellously edgy and eye-dartingly paranoid. Overall, Aghast Agape is dark, moody and quite promising.
