There's only one reason why the whole S Club 7 concept was in any way acceptable, and that was for introducing Britain's sexiest woman to us. Sweet Dreams My LA Ex was a fantastic debut solo single (honestly), but following that up was always going to take some doing.
The title track from her album Funky Dory features a sample from David Bowie's Andy Warhol but it doesn't quite live up to Rachel's previous single. Slower and slightly more melodic, Funky Dory is possibly musically better than Sweet Dreams with a hybrid of pop, latin and even a hint of jazz infusion but it doesn't really do the trick.
Sex appeal can only get you so far. Fans might buy it but it wont sell records by the bucket load. A solid track Funky Dory is - but a major success it shouldn't be.
