Sensitive can be good. Just ask all the bedsit dwelling songwriters writing about lost love and unrequited infatuation. Yet while sensitivity can produce some touching songs and poetic lyrics, sometimes some good old fashioned sleaze can be a lot more fun.

Louis XIV are about as sleazy and fun as you can get. Hailing from San Diego, they specialise in dirty great guitar licks and lyrics that could be offensive if they weren't delivered with such aplomb by lead singer Jason Hill. The filthy sounding, garage rocker Finding Out True Love Is Blind describes Hill's wandering eye with no nods to discrimation or indeed taste: "Chocolate girl, you're looking like something I want/And your Asian friend, she can come if she wants" leers Hill and you can almost hear the dirty grin on his face.

The EP also features the self-aggrandising Louis XIV ("me me me me is all I ever want to talk about") and the glam-rock aping Paper Doll, which has downright hilarious lyrics. In truth, every track's a cracker and Louis XIV's album will be one that's well worth looking out for later in the year.
