"He pours another glass of sadness / And on his face you see the miles..." Pretentious? Well, yes. One of the boldest opening lines of an album this year? Surely.

Hand claps and an upbeat tempo belie the title as Liam McKahey's note perfect baritone serenades the song to The Style Council's back lawn and within an arched eyebrow of The Divine Comedy's driveway. Fans of Scott Walker will of course love it.

The long and rocky road trod by Cousteau's remaining members following the band's (to speak euphemistically) reorganisation has led, in Nova Scotia, to an album of beauty and quality and a feeling that, despite the title of this lead single from it, the band have turned a corner towards happier times.
