It's slightly disconcerting to think that Foo Fighters have now been around for roughly twice as long as Nirvana were. And if you consider the forthcoming album In Your Honour as two albums (one disc is "rock", the other "acoustic"), then they'll have released twice as many studio albums too. Whether Foo Fighters are half as good as Nirvana, however, is another question...

Best Of You is a difficult song to judge. On the one hand it is another piece of above average, commercial rock with the type of strong and insistent tune that Monsieur Grohl has made his calling card over the past decade. On the other, however, it all seems a bit strait-jacketed. Drummer Taylor Hawkins sounds like he's straining at the leash to go ape while the guitars occasionally threaten to really rock before quickly snapping back to safety. It ends in fairly frenzied fashion but there's still a nagging air that the band are reining themselves in unnecessarily.

During the chorus Grohl asks: "Is someone else getting the best of you?" With his seemingly insatiable desire to session drum for fellow "stars", let's hope that Foo Fighters fans don't need to fire this question back at him after hearing the new album. The jury's out for now.
