Editors. Art Brut. The Departure. A whole other array of bands who've recently come out of the woodwork in time for the current ‘80's post-punk inspired revival epidemic. Although categorised in a similar stride with this latest trend, Maximo Park have something else to offer with their inclusion of keyboards and conversational tone singing from Paul Smith (I know what you're thinking; he's NOT the famous clothes designer).
Following the Top 20 success of the superb single Apply Some Pressure, Graffiti is another slab of disco-themed rock from forthcoming album A Certain Trigger. The palatable sound is refreshing in terms of what's been bothering our charts lately (the Crazy Frog song?? Really??) and with lyrics like; "I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French," Maximo Park have provided us, to put it simply, with an enjoyable song.
Smith's Newcastle accent seeps through the song as he sings "That's enough!", and it's good to see a band who aren't intent on being overly American or overtly English, but just set on being themselves. Maximo Park are definitely a highlight of this new musical movement.
