It's been nigh on a full year since Switchfoot's debut single - the grungey, rocking, blisteringly good and Top 30 denting Meant To Live - was released on these shores. Why the wait for the follow-up? And why is The Beautiful Letdown - the album whence both singles came - only being released next week, two and a half years late, and only seven weeks before the long-awaited new opus is available? Some suit-wearing record company exec somewhere needs a slap...

Whatever the record company politics, the good news is that if you aren't acquainted with Switchfoot, then now's your chance. To these admittedly abused ears, Dare You To Move deserves to be the biggest single of the year as it emerges from a beautifully toned acoustic guitar intro and turns into a gloriously anthemic, uplifting, rock-tinged pop tune.

When Jon Foreman sings that "salvation is here" towards the end, there's little alternative but to nod your head and shout "amen!" in response. Dare You To Move? Dare you not to buy this, more like.
