If Michael Parkinson got wind of Beulah yet he'd rub his little liver-spotted hands together so fast they'd constitute a fire hazard.

Beulah is not the band that released the beautiful When Your Heartstrings Break so any indie types can stop getting excited now. Instead, this Beulah is this year's Norah Jones or Katie Melua. Sweet Kind Of Something is very much an easy listen; there's a piano that's close to be being Take Five, some very gentle strings, and, of course, a voice that's as beautiful as dripping honey. The interaction of between Beulah's voice and the string section would prick the ears of even the most defensive of churls.

If coffee table jazz is your thing then you're not going to go far wrong with Beulah; in fact you may as well head straight to the album section and pick up her LP Mabel And I. This is assured stuff, of that there is no doubt, and if you are partial to Radio 2, then it won't be too long before you hear this nestled somewhere near Madeleine Peyroux's current take on Bob Dylan.
