Check under the bed for midgets and beware of cowboys with an evil glint in their eye. With a bass pulsing like the struggling heart of an opium fiend, garbled monastic backing vocals and snapping maracas it's not hard to imagine The Flies talking backwards as characters in a David Lynch film.

So it's probably no coincidence that Sean Cook's collaborators spend most of their days twiddling knobs for movie scores. And as an ex member of Spiritualized and Lupine Howl, it would be equally feasible that this was recorded in zero gravity

The vocals keep the space rock at the docking bay by being so far forward in the mix that they practically take up residence in the inner ear. And whereas Jason Pierce got all twitchy without the accompaniment of six orchestras, this is like singing along to Chopsticks. Stephen Hawkins is making a Brief History Of Time briefer. The Flies take their time and make Ladies And Gentlemen... simpler.
