Life after a manufactured boy/girl band is usually not a happy one, as members of Steps or Hear'Say can testify. However, Rachel Stevens appears to have bucked the trend with her successful, Goldfrapp-lite, solo career, and so here comes former bandmate Jo O'Meara (the blonde one who wasn't Hannah) to try to emulate her post-S Club success.
She was always considered to have the best voice in S Club, but this debut solo single really doesn't show it to its best advantage. It's a lifeless, plodding ballad, full of cliched lyrics about the break up of a relationship - although Jo emotes so passionlessly it may as well be about her shopping list.
The world of cute blonde singers is rather crowded, as is the market for tasteful balladeers. If Jo O'Meara really is going to have a successful post-S Club life, then she needs much better songs than this one.
