It's almost exactly a year since My Chemical Romance unleashed their second album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge on an unsuspecting world. In that time they have sold, if not a truck-load then at least a large van-load of records and, more importantly, become the disaffected teen's band of choice. A kind of Good Charlotte for people who actually like rock rather than just pretending to, you might say. Or an emotionally-charged punk band for those who like to party rather than whine.

The Ghost Of You is just one example of everything that's great about My Chemical Romance's horror comic strip rock. Starting out with a surprisingly low-key, haunting verse it soon leaps into a kick-ass chorus of grandiose proportions. Gerard Way puts in a progressively more passionate vocal performance, while the cascading guitar solo before the final crescendo and the elegiacal organ to round things off are sprinkles of musical magic dust.

It would appear that the only way is steeply upwards for these black-clad but fun-loving New Jersey-ites. Perhaps the Garden State is finally atoning for Bon Jovi...
