Ah, here you are. Sit down then, I've got a new band to play you. Indie guitar boys. Lead singer sounds like Jeff Buckley. Echoes of early Radiohead. Being hailed as the 'new Coldplay' in some quarters apparently...wait, where are you going? Don't run off...I've not even played you it yet...
Sadly, that's the sort of reaction Blackbud may well receive, as bands touted 'the new Radiohead/Coldplay' are about as welcome as bands with the soubriquet 'the new Libertines'. Yet Blackbud really are pretty special - Heartbeat in particular is a glorious beast of a track, starting off gentle and morose before exploding into a dramatic chorus that's reminiscent of a less overblown Muse. It also features a guitar solo that's almost pyrotechnic in its excellence.
The other two tracks are equally as good, especially the sultry Steal Away. It's true that lead singer Joe Taylor sometimes sounds so similar to Mssrs Buckley or Yorke that it's not funny, but ignore anyone touting Blackbud as the new Coldplay. They're not, they're the new Blackbud - and that should be good enough for anyone.
