UK release date: 7 November 2005. Re-released: 9 October 2006.
Corinne Bailey Rae was unknown a year ago, when Like A Star heralded a sweet voice and a way with melody to the world. Since then she's become a household name and been up for several awards in the UK before adding the USA to her fanbase. Here's what we said first time round...
Every so often a young female vocalist suddenly appears whose voice throws everyone into something of a tizz. Amy Winehouse did it a couple of years ago, so did Joss Stone, and now comes Corinne Bailey Rae.
Like A Star is simply stunning - Rae's voice is almost impossibly gorgeous, effortlessly breathing life into every word. The smooth production recalls the languid, laidback vibe of Zero 7, and indeed the Sia comparisons have already begun, but there's much more to Rae than tasteful 'coffee-table' music.
The other two tracks on the EP are equally as good, marking Corinne Bailey Rae as a genuine young star in the making. Buy this and prepare to fall helplessly in love.
