Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - Call Me Ishmael/I Spy (Atlantic)
UK release date: 10 July 2006
Get Cape (or Sam Duckworth to his mum) has been making his name on the toilet circuit for around about two years now. His first singles on indie label Big Scary Monsters are now hugely sought after, and anyone that has caught him on tour will tell you that he is destined for greatness.
One man, and an acoustic guitar and a laptop have rarely sounded so good. Delicately plucked guitar melodies mingle perfectly with his delicate voice. His lyrics are both intelligent and touching, finding him tugging at the heart whilst also delivering political and social commentary. This is no po-faced Billy Bragg effort though, there's an element of joy that pervades Get Cape's music. Midway through Call Me Ishmael the beat picks up, a trumpet cheerily takes centre stage. Suddenly the sun seems to be shining just for you as you stack shelves with your ipod providing the only sense of escape from the drudgery of your job. Get Cape has a way of making you feel like you can fly.
It's been a little while coming, but this single will see Get Cape on his way to becoming one of the stars of 2006.
