Sharleen Spiteri and co sound in pretty sprightly form on their
latest single, with a bounce to the beat that recalls their 1999 hit Summer
Son. The chorus to this one might not be so immediate, but, as with all Texas
tunes, if you give it an inch it will take a mile - what seems innocuous on
first hearing is burning a path to your musical brain by the third or
fourth.
"I believe that you told me a promise laced with lies" is the intriguing
opening, later resigned in the bridge passage to having "fallen for your
sentimental charms again," frustration the obvious emotion.
With the customary sleek, immaculate production, the only thing that
might grate here is Sharleen's tendency to draw out the notes in the
verses - a mannerism I personally didn't warm too. Other than that? Business
as usual.
