Zero 7 have a wonderful knack of producing songs that would be very good, were it not for a certain aspect of the track that pulls the music down. So it was with misgivings that I put their most recent single, Throw It All Away, into my CD player and pressed the play button.

As usual, an interesting and catchy intro eases listeners into the song. An undetermined verse bubbles along with a summery skewer to it, casual and cool. Steady, lazy build up. Then - there! I've found it, that annoying bit of, it seems, every Zero 7 track that can pass unnoticed but, when it doesn't, makes the track just that little less listenable.

This time it's at the beginning of the chorus, with a washed out "Cash it in then throw it all away" that is an attempt as soaring but is better described as floating rather aimlessly. And each time it comes; gritted teeth, momentary distractions are found, as the song temporarily loses its beat. An accessible, uplifting track that is fairly interesting for a while, but unfortunately, that 'while' is not for long.
