Alan Ashton-Smith
Here's everything published by this contributor on musicOMH.
Alan Ashton-Smith was born in Liverpool in and now lives in Leicester. Having made forays into academic, music-related and creative writing, he contrived to bring the three to a point of intersection with the completion of a PhD thesis on Gypsy Punk. He is the author of Gypsy Music: The Balkans and Beyond, published in 2017 by Reaktion (UK) and the University of Chicago Press (US), a book that sets out to answer the question of what Gypsy music actually is by exploring its relationship with place. He has been writing about music since 2010, principally for MusicOMH and the now defunct Shout4Music, where he was Live Reviews Editor; and has reviewed books for PopMatters. Alan tweets sporadically at @alanashtonsmith
