London Gigs 13-19 April 2015

SlugGig Of The Week

Slug is the latest in the seemingly never ending line of Field Music side projects. This incarnation, however, sees the mind-bogglingly talented Brewis brothers take a back seat, as their former touring and session bassist Ian Black steps into the spotlight. Slug has more in common with the Brewis projects than just personnel; Black’s work has all the quirks and kooks that fans of Field Music, The Week That Was and School Of Language will love; awkward guitars, and plenty of percussion. The Brewis’s record label approves too – Slug’s debut album, Ripe, is set for release on 13 April – when he’ll also be playing at the Lexington.

Announcement Of The Week

Jazz and international music promoters Serious are set to host the cleverly named Serious Space Shoreditch – six nights of live music and audio-visual spectacles at two east London venues; Rich Mix and Miranda, at the Ace Hotel. Promising a programme of “innovative new work coupled with a range of contemporary music and cross –arts projects, the line-up includes Federcio Albanese, Boubacar Traore, Bill Laurance Project, Joe Acheson of Hidden Orchestra and the UK premiere of Chassol’s Big Sun. Tickets are on sale now.
