Gig Of The Week
It’s another busy week in London town, kicking off with Dan Deacon at Islington Assembly Hall on Monday. This show is in honour of his new album, Gliss Riffer, out later this month. It’s an entirely self-produced record, which he’s described as “easily the most fun I’ve ever had making a record” – sounds good to us.
Announcement Of The Week
Following in the footsteps of Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Patti Smith, John Peel and reams of super-impressive, mega-famous folk, David Byrne has been announced at the curator of this year’s Meltdown festival. The highlight of the Southbank Centre’s summer programme, Byrne will take over its venues on 17-28 August with a series of handpicked artists. Nothing has been announced yet, but with collaborators including St Vincent, Brian Eno, Paul Simon, Fatboy Slim, Arcade Fire and Anna Calvi, the former Talking Heads frontman has plenty of old pals to call on.
