London Gigs Diary: 1-7 July 2013

BeckGlastonbury is only just over, but London’s live music circuit plunges on.

On Thursday, an eclectic mix of high profile musicians comes together to perform Beck’s songsheet album Song Reader. The line-up includes Beck himself, plus Jarvis Cocker, Franz Ferdinand, Beth Orton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joan As Police Woman, Villagers, The Staves, Guillemots, Michael Kiwanuka, James Yorkston and The Pictish Trail. The house band features Polar Bear‘s Seb Rochford (drums) and The Invisible‘s Tom Herbert (bass) and Dave Okumu (guitar), with music direction by Ed Harcourt and David Coulter.

One of the all-time great composers, Burt Bacharach, plays a second show at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, while on Wednesday Brummie band Misty’s Big Adventure play Catch, with support from David Cronenberg’s Wife.

On Friday, Apparat plays Krieg & Frieden live at the Islington Assembly Hall ahead of teaming up again with Modeselektor for a new Moderat album, due out this summer.
