Competition: DVDs of Immortal Beloved to be won

We have five copies of the film Immortal Beloved, the story of Beethoven and the mystery of his secret love, to be won.

Starring British actor Gary Oldman as the composer, the film was made in 1994 but is only now released on DVD and Blu-Ray in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound (available in the shops from 2 February 2009).

Unlike some arty biopics, Bernard Rose’s movie gives a realistic and believable portrayal of the great composer, thanks in large part to Oldman’s brilliant performance. It explores the mystery surrounding the unnamed “Immortal Beloved”, mentioned in an enigmatic letter discovered upon his death by his lifelong friend and secretary Anton Schindler (played by Jeroen Krabbe).

The thrilling search for the identity of the mystery woman leads us into Beethoven’s dark past, his hidden passions, and, ultimately, into the unparalleled genius of his music. Isabella Rossellini and Valeria Golino appear as women in Beethoven’s life.

To win one of the five copies of the film, simply send an email to classical@musicomh.com with “competition” in the subject line. Winners will be drawn on Monday 2 February, the day of the DVD’s release.
