London Gigs: 20-26 April 2015

Gig Of The Week

Never ones to shy away from making themselves heard, Godspeed You! Black Emperor‘s new album is a 40 minute noisy, raucous plea for action. Angry, disjointed guitars and booming drums pepper ambient washes of sound. It’s as hard hitting and unsettling as ever – and worth a 4.5 star review from us – so we’re looking forward to seeing it brought to life Monday.

Announcement Of The Week

The lovely folk at Daylight Music have announced their spring season, which is set to start next month. Since its first outing nearly six years ago, it’s become a institution; a series of free gigs (although a suggestion £3.50 donation is welcome) from 12-2pm on Saturdays at the beautifully imposing Union Chapel. The next session, on 23 May, features classically trained pianist and violinist Poppy Ackroyd, who weaves mind boggling sounds using just those two instruments; Welsh Music Prize nominees Winter Villains and Rocket Girl signing Jon DeRossa.
