London Gigs: 24-30 August 2015

Gig Of The Week

Foals‘ new album is out on 28 August and they’re marking that with not one but two Shows in the capital this week. The album gets its official launch at the Village Underground on Monday, followed by an instore at Rough Trade East on release day, Friday. They’ve also announced a UK club tour in November. There’s a London-shaped hole in the schedule so far, but watch this space…

Announcement Of The Week

Slap bang in the middle of its David Byrne-curated Meltdown festival, The Southbank Centre has released details of its upcoming Africa Utopia. Before Mr Byrne has even had a chance to pack up his dressing room, a huge delegation of African artists arrive to help us “explore what can be learnt and celebrated from modern Africa and the African diaspora”.

Now in its third year, the three-day programme features afrobeat legend Tony Allen with special guests including Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté; Senegal’s Orchestra Baobab and Kasse Mady Diabaté. It also hosts the launch of Chineke!, Europe’s first black and minority ethnic classical symphony orchestra. There’s also a feast of art, fashion, craft and story telling. It all takes place on 10-13 September.
