Goat play at Brixton Academy this week
Masked psych-rock Swedes Goat head to Brixton Academy this week. This one-off, massive show will be their only headline show of the year, and coincides with their appearance at WOMAD festival. Expect lots from their 2916 album, Requiem. Support comes form experimental London collective, Moonlandingz. Catch them on Saturday 29 July.
The Hayman Kupa Band play at Dalston’s Shacklewell Arms on Monday 24 July. An indiepop super group of sorts, they’re led by Darren Hayman and Emma Kupa (of Standard Fare and Mammoth Penguins). Their self titled album was released last week, and sees their signature sounds blurred to create a charming, melodic pop record that’s the perfect soundtrack to warm summer evenings.
The BBC Proms always throw in a few surprises, designed to lure in those of us who wouldn’t instinctively devour it’s extensive programme. This year that programme includes The ‘Godlike Genius’ of Scott Walker. The late night prom, at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 25 July, presents Walker’s four self-titled albums with live orchestral backing and special guests including Jarvis Cocker, Susanne Sundfør, Richard Hawley and John Grant.
