Gigs Of The Week
Ukrainian born sisters Anna and Sonia Kuprienko – aka Bloom Twins – bring their brilliant electro pop noir to Dalston’s Birthdays on Thursday 28 July. They specialise in eerie, atmospheric sounds which caught the ear of Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes. He’s working on their debut album with them, which is due for release later this year.
Lamb’s Lou Rhodes released her fourth solo album, theyesandeye, on the newly re-established Nude Records, last week. A beautiful, instrumental cocktail of harp, strings and piano weave throughout the rootsy singer/songwriter sounds she’s best known for. Hear it at Rough Trade East on Tuesday 26 July and St Pancras Old Church on Thursday 28 July.
Bright Light Bright Light’s third album, Choreography, was released a couple of weeks ago. It’s fair to say that, under his stage alias, Rod Thomas has earned something of a cult following. The video for the album’s first single, All In The Name, features Elton John – who he’s previously supported on tour. Other guests on the album include Alan Cumming and Jake Shears and Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters. Catch him at Oslo on Thursday 28 July.
