Gig Of The Week

Serial Mercury Prize nominee Laura Marling‘s imminent return with fifth album Short Movie is signalled with a microscopic gig at the Silver Bullet on Saturday. She’s made a habit of this approach to comeback shows, choosing tiny pubs when she could readily sell out a big barn; maybe it’s bloody-minded, a statement that her principles are intact, or that she really prefers smaller gigs in which to test out new material. It’s been a lottery to get tickets, but that won’t stop fans gathering outside in the hope of entry or of hearing at least some of the 25-year-old’s performance, if previous form is anything to go by.

Announcement Of The Week

Along with news of new album Carter Tutti Play Chris & Cosey and a Carter Tutti Void album in the pipeline for later this year, Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti have announced a one-off Baba Yaga’s Hut gig at Heaven for Valentine’s weekend, on 15 February (tickets here). “The show will be the last performance of the ‘Carter Tutti Plays Chris & Cosey’ set for the foreseeable future,” says the blurb; “the founding members of Throbbing Gristle plan to predominately refocus on working in their studio for next couple of years.” More here.
