Track Of The Day: Damon Albarn – Heavy Seas Of Love

damon albarnHeavy Seas Of Love simply sounds exactly how the title suggests. A gentle, almost sleepy, lullaby featuring vocals from Brian Eno as well as the addition of a children’s choir, the second single from Damon Albarn’s upcoming album Everyday Robots, is a pretty little song that has a calming effect on the soul.

Rumour has it that when the ex-Blur frontman started this solo project, he almost ended up forming a whole new band – and judging from the sweet nature and warm-hearted melody of this track, it isn’t hard to imagine people lining up to collaborate with Albarn on the rest of the record, which gets premiered at Brockley’s staggeringly beautiful and woefully underused Rivoli Ballroom on 30 April.

There are subtle handclaps, distant chanting, and hushed tones about Heavy Seas Of Love, a song that itself sways back and forth like the tides of the ocean. All the more reason to look forward to Albarn’s headline set at Latitude Festival this year.
