Featuring a cameo from co-producers of the song, The Partysquad, the accompanying visuals are all DIY and political statements, at one point announcing “1984 is now”, referring, of course, to George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In true M.I.A. style, Double Bubble Trouble flashes badass kids, selfies, popping, mask-wearing gangsters, smoking, gun-wielding and…parrots, monkeys and gold grills.
Super-raw and features some headache-inducing strobe lights, the track questions what would happen in a world where anyone could 3D print a gun. Heavy stuff. And so is the music – think psychedelia mixed with dubstep and hard techno and you get this latest instalment from 2013’s Matangi.
