Track Of The Day: Gus Gus – Crossfade

The first official single from Icelandic electronic crew Gus Gus’ upcoming new album is one tripped out affair. As the first example of what’s to come on the full-length Mexico on Monday 23 June, Crossfade is a mesmerising combination of moody synths, throbbing percussion and airy vocals that occasionally come extremely close in resemblance to the singing style of the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence.

In a nutshell it’s a track that fans of techno, or at least dance-pop, should get on to and which sounds like a leftover song from Gus Gus’ excellent 2011 album Arabian Horse.

There’s plenty of ‘80s and ‘90s influences mixed with UK garage and even a little bit of trance, and, just as a sidenote, the remix featuring contributions from Maceo Plex and Michael Mayer are also well worth checking out.
