Track Of The Day: Adult Jazz – Spook

Warning: The new single from Leeds four-piece Adult Jazz is absolutely not for those with short attention spans.

At almost 10 minutes in length, Spook twists and morphs from slow, piano-laden melodies into bursts of trumpets and playful rhythms and back into the breezy, airy, sparse and atmospheric territory. Really, what you get here is about five songs’ worth within just one track, and although Adult Jazz are not actually a jazz band per se, Spook is very much freestyle, anything-goes improv.

The haunting female backing vocals give the song an extra cinematic feel, while Spook overall is playful, unpredictable and, one of the rarest things to achieve in music today – genuinely unique.
